Contemporary romance writer, Jill Haymaker, brings you back to Peakview, Colorado, with her second book in the Peakview Series. Another story to capture the hearts of baby boomers and show that you are never to late to find that perfect love.
The tiny, mountain town of Peakview, Colorado, wouldn’t be the same without Violet’s Café, and its owner, Violet Woods. Widowed in her fifties, she leads a solitary life with only her cat Lucky to keep her warm at night. All thoughts of romance died with Stan. They had a wonderful, long happy marriage, and she’s content to live out the rest of her life with her memories.
Howard Crandall, Peakview’s only mechanic, is a confirmed bachelor and something of a hermit. When Stan died, he took it upon himself to look out for Violet. Over the years, they have become friends, but it isn’t until the past he has hid from for thirty year past suddenly catches up with him, that he opens up to the idea of finding love.
Is there a second chance for these two lonely souls?

Age is just a number and love doesn’t pay all that much attention to that kind of pesky detail. Things are about to get interesting in the small mountain town of Peakview, Colorado. When a stranger and her teen age daughter wander into Violet’s Cafe looking for hot drinks and a certain mechanic no one knew what an important part these two would play for many residents.Howard had been Violet’s late husband’s best friend. In the years since Stan’s death, Howard and Violet have become good friends. Howard always seems to be there for whatever Violet needs done around her property. Lately Violet has been seeing Howard with slightly different eyes. And Howard has always been in love with this strong, lovely lady. He simply felt that she needed a friend more than anything else. But it sure has been hard keeping those feelings at bay over the years. With this new awareness between them, someone’s going to have to make that first move. Or perhaps fate will intervene and change several lives at once.
Breakfast For Two is a slice of life kind of romance. Things happen, choices made, and often we have no clue of things that happened out of our sight. I enjoyed this story on several levels. Mainly it is about loving someone. Romantically, yes, certainly. But also discovering that family love is unique and welcomed late in life is another startling discovery. I think it’s easy to know what is coming within this story, but I also don’t want to give things away. So, I’ll simply say that this story has all the enjoyable aspects of small town living, and the joy of experiencing love… no matter your age. And a very good life lesson: never stop living until that last breath. You just never know what may be around the corner to change a life forever.

Breakfast for Two Peakview series Book 2 eBook Jill Haymaker Reviews
I spent a lazy Saturday reading this book. With the exceptions of a few misspelled words, incomplete sentences, and one character's eyes chaning from blue (at the beginning of the story), to brown (near the end), I liked it. It's the story of two older people (Violet and Howard) finding love in their sixties. Both felt a little insecure about how the other one felt about them, but they worked it out in the end. Violet was a widow, while Howard had never been married. Howard was her late husband's best friend. Howard felt it was his duty to take cars of Violet after her husband died. They began their relationship eight years after that fact. Right when they began developing feelings for each other, a secret (make that two secrets), stepped from the shadows of Howard's past, which made Violet wonder where she stood. An easy read to get through in one day. This made me tear up a little.
This story started off a little slow for me. Thinking back I believe it was to show the routineness of their lives before things started to happen. Things they never saw coming. It is a sweet romance of two people, each 65, one a widow and the other a confirmed bachelor. They have been friends for many years, living in a small town in the mountains of Colorado they have always been there for each other but even more so after her husband and his best friend dies of a heart attack.
Life is fairly routine for them until one Christmas when everything changes. It is for the better. It is a happy story, one you will enjoy and feel good about the characters when the story is over. Howard is a lovely man and it is too bad he spent most of his life alone but now, he has it all. More than he ever dreamed possible. The heroine has been happy but not as fulfilled as she is now. It is an entertaining read and I definitely recommend it.
I have to agree with another reviewer. Howard's eyes did change from blue to brown over the course of the story!!! Also there were a lot of words that were out of place. Just made for a weird sentence. This could have happened in the typing or putting the story to kindle form. Not a glaring mishap, just causes you to go back and reread. Plus I did see a couple of places where the wrong word was used....she had know him...when it should have been known him. Again, nothing to worry about it just causes the words to not flow. The story has some twists and turns, a bit of adventure and some anxious moments. Best of all, there was no "bad guy", etc. just the story of two people fading love in their golden years. A good read.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
Peakview is a small community, maybe 200 or so people, so it has only one mechanic and one cafe, and Violet had been running Violet's Cafe since forever. She's a widow in her fifties. While losing Stan was painful, it had been a while. She's just not ready to think about someone new. But Howard, the resident mechanic, is a friend, who's always there in the morning, and he's a hermit and a confirmed bachelor. He basically just showed up one day and took over the old garage/gas station, and he's been here 30 years, and nobody bothered asking why. That is, until a mother and daughter came to town, looking for Howard. It appears that Howard's regret from 30 years ago is back to haunt him as a reminder that life is too short to have regrets... but is Violet amenable for male attention?
This author's romance is always low, with minimal sex (but there are some), and often with older people finding another chance. While it may be better to read them in order, I'm not, and each book is definitely standalone. I like the slow burn and the way a catalyst (usually, a stranger in town) sets things in motion that no one really anticipates.
