One rainy Tuesday evening teenage shipping clerk Keith O’Dowd witnesses what he believes to be a murder from the top deck of a Liverpool bus. Unable to resist investigating, Keith triggers a series of events that will echo down the decades and haunt him forever.
Top Deck - a story inspired by the author’s youthful bus journeys to and from Liverpool City Centre - was shortlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association Short Story Dagger.

I probably should've given this lackluster short story 2stars but I opted for 3stars because I enjoyed reading about the bus rides. The murder from a train (Christie) or a rear window (Hitchcock) just seemed hackneyed and the observer of the murder seemed to me to make unlikely choices, not to mention the even more unlikely coincidences. The whole story seemed contrived and forced. Still, I did enjoy that bus ride with the steamed up bus windows and the cigarette smoking so ubiquitous in the 1960's.Product details
